Back from my hiatus...
Yes, finally I'm back...I've been wanting to add something here but been either very 1.reluctant or 2.lazy... well, I've finally decided to continue this...
So what's up now??? One major thing is my new job... well i finally got into the F&B industry (haha after much job hunting) and praise God I found the perfect place...
CANTINA : The Food and Wine Shop at 60 Greenleaf Road Singapore 279351 Tel: 64675413It's such and awesome place to work...well, thanks to Regina for hooking me up and introducing me to one of it's managers...btw, Regina's working there too so it's nice to have someone i know around in the beginning. Well, to list why the place is great:
1. Food is great!!! Oh man! It's no wonder we have alot of customers everyday and also frequenters! haha, u might ask how I know we have great food, well...we have very good chefs and people inside the kitchen (that's reason no.2) . Sometimes they prepare a pizza or two for the waiters...or when they have extra pasta or other stuff then we get to try when we pass by the kitchen.
2. People are great!!! Chefs and kitchen people are so kind (see above)... our managers are pretty cool and teach us everything they know...well almost everything...i still gotta know how to recommend wine...i don't even know what's the name of our house red wine...one time i said it's chardonnay and apparently thats a white wine...hehe so embarassing...the other waiters are great too...gonna try to get some pictures of us and the place...
3. Working environment is great...well, the restaurant itself is already an A+ complete with a bar, an alfresco that sits about 40+, a nice quaint wine cellar and a vip room plus the rest of the restaurant... our schedule is also flexible, so i can tell my manager when i can or cannot work (of course in advance) and everything works fine...working hours are great too (normal restaurant hours...11am-3 and 6-11pm) and it's during these times that im really awake.
4. The place is near NUS...about 15min, 2 bus rides...and a 5 min walk
5. I love giving service!!! :) i dunno, i never get bored... seeing new people everytime..somehow each group having their own story... a couple celebrating an anniversary or maybe just having a normal dinner date, a whole family of five...loving mother, authoritative father, noisy kids, a classic chinese girl meets caucasian boyfriend's family (mother, father and sister...oh man this one I really felt the awkwardness, but I think it didn't go so bad...few laughs somewhere in the middle...but before the appetizers came the awkwardness was tangible hehe) or maybe just two bestfriends having a good dinner talking about what happened at work...whatever their story was, i love being there and serving them the common thing between them at that moment... eating! :P
The whole experience has been awesome... I've been learning a lot and still learning now... i didn't know dining can be so complicated (well at least for the servers haha)
Today was a highlight for me... I was in charge of the al fresco side of the restaurant... well there was only 1 reservation for 7 people...so everything started fine... then a couple came...and while serving them, what do ya know...several more people came and boom! 3 more tables...so that's 5 tables, about 20 people and only 1 waiter...MEEEEE!!!

stressed siah!!! hahaha...i just greeted them and ask them to take their seats...at this moment i was panicking coz i couldn't call the other waiters, who at that moment are also busy serving other people...(at the start of our shift there were 54 people reservations!!! 54!!! wah...) well, in the end it all played out well...one or two mistakes but we can't avoid those...
so the night ended a little later than usual...punched out at 0007am and waited for the taxi (which by the way is reason no.6 why the place is great) , they give us company paid rides when we get home late and there's no more bus to ride...what do you say to that???
and oh ya...we also have staff lounge...that has cooked food, aircon and tv with cable (we can watch between shifts 3-6) woohoo!
great place...well im beat now haha... im gonna update more on the rest of what's up next time...
anyways, congratulations to CARRIE UNDERWOOD for becoming THE AMERICAN IDOL... yay! well, i think Bo deserved to win as well, but regardles, both of them are gonna be a star...gonna watch out for both of them (and of course my season favourite...VONZELL SOLOMON!!! hope her album reaches here)
